To receive the most benefit from the 21 Days to Spiritual Renewal and 30 Days to Connect With Jesus programs, it is recommended that you focus on your relationship with Jesus, and avoid the distractions of the world as much as possible.

You may wish to make a Fasting and Feasting Commitment

During the time you are setting apart to draw closer to God, make a commitment to FAST from the world, and FEAST on the Word!

YOUR FASTING COMMITMENT

The first point is: This is YOUR commitment, and YOU are the one who decides what it will be!

The purpose of making a fasting commitment is to remove anything from your life for these 21 days that would hinder or distract you from seeking God with all your heart. There even may be hobbies or other regular activities that you may want to lay aside for these 21 days.

Here are some ideas that some may choose to include in their commitment. Please don't feel that any of these are mandatory. Whatever the Lord impresses on your heart is what you should commit to. These are simply ideas:

Sample Fasting Commitment #1: By the enabling power of the Lord, for ____ days, I choose to abstain (or limit myself) from secular media such as television, radio, Internet, Newspapers, magazines, movies, comics, shows, video games, secular music, sporting events and the like. My specific commitment is as follows:

Sample Fasting Commitment #2: By the enabling power of the Lord, for ____ days, I choose to refrain (or limit myself) from ingesting the following items: Alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, any mind altering substances. Additional food items I may choose to avoid/limit during the ____ days are: Meat, high fat foods, refined sugar, soft drinks, junk food, etc.

Sample Fasting Commitment #3: By the enabling power of the Lord, for ____ days, I choose to refrain from:

Wearing of certain items of adornment or immodest clothing

Going to certain locations that hinder my spiritual growth

Certain activities that distract me from putting God first

Certain pursuits that encourage ungodly attitudes

Prayerfully make Your Fasting Commitment, adjusting it according to your own willingness to follow through. Ask God what He wants you to FAST from so as not to hinder your FEAST with Him!

YOUR FEASTING COMMITMENT

Again, these are simply ideas of what you may wish to include in your commitment for the days length of your program.

Sample Feasting Commitment #1: By the enabling power of the Lord, for ____ days, I choose in increase my morning devotional time by _________________ (time) .

Sample Feasting Commitment #2: By the enabling power of the Lord, for ____days, I choose to spend _____(time) during the day/evening in prayer/meditation/Bible study, choosing to read spiritual material instead of reading other secular material.

Sample Feasting Commitment #3 By the enabling power of the Lord, I choose to listen to Christian music/sermons/the Word of God, instead of listening to the radio/TV/secular music.

Prayerfully make your Feasting Commitment, adjusting it according to your own willingness to follow through. Ask God how much time He would like you to spend with Him.

In this sacred covenant with God, depend fully on His enabling power. This is not a duty, per se, it is a time of surrender to God, allowing Him write His character on your heart. In order for Him to do that, He needs for you to plant His seed, the Word of God, in your heart. The time you spend will not be in vain. You are choosing the highest use of your time, which will have eternal consequences. The more time and effort you put into these 21 days, the richer your reward.

Please notice: Your reward is a blessed and joyful intimacy with the Lord. These 30 Days to Connect with Jesus or 21 days to Spiritual Renewal are not earning saving merit with God, because that is impossible. He has already saved you by His grace. Your part is to accept His gift of salvation, and give Him the praise!

The term we use for inputting the Word is Wordkeeping. That means you are receiving the straight, pure Word into your heart, meditating slowly, reverently, and prayerfully upon it, so that it will be retained, and the Spirit can utilize it. Your retentiveness will improve, you enjoyment will increase. Your benefits will multiply. Make your commitment today, and ask God for the strength and determination to carry it out.

Commitments are always easier to keep if we have accountability. Encourage a friend or family member to participate in these special days with you, and become accountability partners with them. Share your commitment with them, and ask them to pray for you, as you pray for them.

Ps. 27:4

One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
